The Question:
Hi, I have a couple requests if you could perform tests between the current high-end 2009 iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and the 2009 MacPro Single 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. The second a comparison between the 2009 MacPro Single 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon and the Dual 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. Thanks for any help you can provide! P.S. Also if you are able to a test between the 2009 17" Macbook pro 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and the 2009 iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo..thanks!

I am sorry we have been so slow on getting these results for you. Testing and vacations have taken more time than we anticipated. We still have not tested the Single Mac Pro 2.93GHz, but wanted to get you the results we do have ....
Current high-end 2009 iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and the 2009 MacPro Single 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

Processor test .... iMac 5% faster
Graphics Test .... iMac 32% faster
Hard Drive Test .... iMac 52% faster
Game Test .... iMac 11% faster
Application Test .... iMac 8% faster
Photoshop Test .... iMac 7% faster
As you can see the two machines are pretty close in processor type activity. The real difference comes in graphics and hard drive performance. This is typical of desktop machines (such as the iMac), when compared to laptops of the same vintage. They are invariably better performers in disk and graphics function (the exception to this might be the Mac mini ... as the low end desktop model of Apple's lineup)

The comparison results below are estimates based on what we know of the current crop of Mac Pro computers. We have not yet tested the Mac Pro Single 2.93GHz Quad so bear that in mind. Also note that the processor scores are based on full saturation of whatever processing capability the machine has. Unless you have a production workflow or use specialized applications, it is unlikely that you will often use the full processing capacity of what the 8 core machine is capable of.
Processor test .... Dual 2.26GHz Quad 21% faster
Graphics Test .... Dual 2.26GHz Quad 12% slower
Hard Drive Test .... Dual 2.26GHz Quad 1% faster
