From The PowerBook G4/500 To The PowerBook 5300/117- A Performance Review

| Previous PowerBook Models |

The graphs below represent a benchmark performance comparison between different present and past PowerBook/iBook Models. Testing was done using ZoneBench 2000. The base machine for ZoneBench 2000 is a Blue & White G3/350 tower Macintosh, which receives a score of 100. Scores marked in red are extrapolated from real data, and what what we know of the relative performance of various laptop computers. Unfortunately graphics and disk performance do not lend themselves to estimation because there can be great variation. However it is safe to assume that both drive and graphics performance have increased significantly in later machines.

ZoneBench Scores

MacBench - PowerBook processor scores

ZoneBench 2000 Processor score is based on processor intensive tasks, some of which stress the enhanced performance capabilities of the G4 and some that do not.

Individual Tests

The tests below are from our suite of ZoneBench 2000 real world application tests. These tests feature a diverse selection of applications commonly used by the Mac community. The test suite was designed to render an accurate and well rounded picture of a machine's performance. All of the tests below (with the exception of the Quake III & Cinebench 2000 tests) were timed with a stopwatch. The times are then converted to percentages relative to our base Blue & White G3/350 machine which is set to 100%. For all scores, higher numbers are better.
