From 7.6 to 8.6 - A Mac OS Performance History

The graphs below represent a Mac OS performance comparison from version 7.6.1 through 8.6. The test machine was a 9500/200 The test drive was given a low level format before each OS install with one exception. As we don't have the full OS 8.6 CD, we simply applied the updater to 8.5.1. Starting with OS 8.1 the drive was updated to the HFS+ standard. All tests were performed with all of the OS extensions on. For the "real world" tests below we set the scores relative to OS 8.6 which received a score of 100% Lower numbers and shorter bars are better.
