The G3/292 PowerBook was released in the late spring of 1998,
along with a lower-end 233MHz model and the mid-range 250
MHz machine. The 292 MHz PowerBook featured the 750 version
of the G3 processor which meant that it could accept a Backside
cache...unlike the low-end 233MHz PowerBook, which was cache-less.
These machines had a sleek new design and came with either
a 12.1" color dual-scan passive matrix screen capable
of 16-bit color at 800x600 resolution, a 13.3" active matrix
screen capable of 24-bit color at 1024x768 resolution or a
14.1 active matrix screen also capable of 24-bit color at
1024x768 resolution. Standard hard drive size was either 4
or 8 GB, and the machine came with 64 MB of RAM installed.
Maximum RAM capacity is 192 MB.
Two expansion bays allow you add additional removable drives
or to utilize a second battery giving your PowerBook a use
range of from 5 - 6.5 hours (a single battery will power the
G3/292 for approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours).
This PowerBook has 2 PC slots which can accommodate two type
II PC cards or one type III. SCSI and S-video output connectors
are found on the back of the case and the machine has an internal
56K modem.
The PowerBook G3/292 weighs in at a arm stretching 7.2 to
7.8 pounds
